A little blast from the past

Post by NZPolice_history on Mon Nov 02, 2009 12:35 am

I have spent a little over a year putting this little gem together, and after a lazy winter I kicked myself into motivation.

Hope it brings back some good memories for a few of the older members...

Progress updates to come...

Nice. I remeber these well. Commodores of that era were generally 6 cyl autos without power steering. Cloth front seats and vinyl rear. They were the basic SL model and ran steel wheels. The VH model had 4 wheel disc brakes. Any more cars in your collection?

Yeah - they were well into my service. The vehicles when I joined were HQ holdens, grey with a single red dome light on the roof and the word 'POLICE" angled on the front doors.
I can still recall the regos of the I cars - HR451 and HR452. 451 was an auto and 452 manual.

Keep them coming!

Thanks for the comments - Re Jack's question, I have plans of doing a 1994 VR Holden Commodore (the hard thing with the VH commodore, is the long search for certain things to complete the project. (P.s. Its based in Auckland for anyone thats interested). But It has been a rewarding project so far.

I think I remember you posting on TradeMe for some parts?

Keen to bring it down to the King Country in March 2010, its our Fire Brigades Centennial and were organising a Parade and Display day.

You might get a bit of work in the TV industry with her?

Keep me informed re: the Fire Brigades Centennial, as for the TV stuff, there has been some interest in future shows from a couple production companies...

Certainly brings back memories - here are a couple:

"Smoke in the cockpit" - Electrical system caught fire.

"Off Road" Driver became "spatially disorientated" while "checking out suspicious activity" on a partially completed motorway, mounted the kerb and knocked the front wheels backwards by about 10 cm. Luckily it turned out that the site had not yet been gazetted as a road, and for the purposes of the Transport act was still legally a field. No chance of a charge of careless use. Shame!!
